The Alexander Technique is a set of principles devised by Tasmanian born Frederick Matthias Alexander in the early 1900s.
Alexander was a Shakespearean orator who would lose his voice each time he spoke in public. After many years of research and study, he discovered that it was the way he tilted his head back and tightened his throat that was causing his problem.
H e also discovered that this was a subconscious habit which was not easy to change, but eventually he worked out a set of principles which not only fixed his voice problem but also improved his general health as well. Application of these principles allows habitual patterns of use to be changed, and results in:-
Improved general health and wellbeing Relief of back and neck pain Reduced stress and tension Improved posture and flexibility Improved balance and co-ordination Ease in everyday living activities Enhanced performance for musicians, actors public speakers & athletes Ability to assess situations and make effective decisions
The Alexander Technique is a gentle, non-invasive way of integrating the mind and body to promote good general health and well being.
